How our sessions are programmed at TARIS

Affiliate owner and Head Coach, Lisa Lake programs all sessions at CrossFit TARIS.

The programming at TARIS follows the CrossFit Methodology, ‘constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity’. I am a strong advocate for CrossFit and the benefits this training has in building broad, general and inclusive physical fitness for each member, no matter what their age, capacity, skill level or physical ability.

The beauty of CrossFit programming is in the inclusiveness – we can adapt any class to accommodate anyone and everyone.

I program in blocks to develop our members’ capacity, strength and skill to inevitably coincide with the CrossFit Open and certain other events throughout the year. Therefore, some cycles may have a particular focus or bias for a short period of time, and for a specific outcome.

For example, once a year I incorporate a Weightlifting block which runs for approximately 6 weeks and finishes with our annual In House Weightlifting Competition.

There are so many movements, skills, lifts and metabolic conditioning elements to fit into our program and this is why we don’t bias programming to a specific element for a long period of time - because everything else will suffer.

When I program workouts, my goal is to challenge each and every member to push to their fullest potential and to gradually improve your strength, fitness, capacity, mental fortitude, mobility and self-confidence.

This ensures that the fittest athlete in the gym right through to the newest athlete in the gym are challenged.

I have to program weights, movements, volume, skills and combinations to challenge the fittest and strongest, then everyone will scale and adjust what they need to, in order to meet the desired stimulus.

This is why the brief that the coaches give at the beginning of the class and/or workout is so important.

We will explain exactly what the intended programming stimulus is for that day, so that you can change whatever you need to, and get the best workout for you.

Try not to ‘cherry-pick’ workouts – if there is something on the agenda where you think “I really don’t like that” there’s a good chance that’s because it is a weakness and something you should be working on. We all dislike things we’re not good at – it’s hard! But the long-term accomplishment and growth you experience from turning a weakness into strength is such an awesome feeling.

If you have any questions about the programming at TARIS, come and have a chat because I’d be more than happy to explain it further. 😁
