Our gym rules

We’re a pretty easygoing bunch at TARIS, but like every great gym we’ve got a few house rules that keep things fun, safe and running smoothly for everyone.

Please have a read, it means a lot to us.

Coach Lisa overseeing a class at CrossFit TARIS in Logan.

Respect our community

  • Training at TARIS should be the best hour of your day, so please leave your personal problems and negativity at the door. For a lot of our community, the gym is a getaway from all the chaos and heaviness of life. You are in control of your attitude at all times, so do your best to be positive, happy and kind.

  • Be respectful of our coaches and other members. We will not tolerate bullying, harassment or abuse.

  • If you are sick, please consider our coaches and other members’ health and don’t come to the gym.

Check your ego at the door

  • If a coach is asking you to do, or not do something, it will be for your own and other members’ safety and/or for the good of the equipment and gym space. They have your best interests at heart, so don’t take it personally and please respect their judgement.

  • Be honest with your reps and movement standards, the only person you have to impress is yourself.

  • Strive for perfect before attempting heavy. Strive for solid foundational movements before progressing to more advanced skills. Good movement impresses us more than how much you’re lifting or what skills you have. ;)

Respect and listen to our coaches

  • Please listen quietly while our coaches give the workout brief and provide instructions. You may know what to do, but you might be disrupting someone who doesn’t.

  • Let your coach know before a class if you are experiencing pain or discomfort. We want you to be safe and it is better for us to know what is going on, so we can help you modify workouts.

  • Be on time. We understand things happen and most of the time you are not intentionally trying to be late, so we don’t believe in burpee penalties. However, please respect our coaches and other members’ time and effort to do your best to arrive to class early or on time.
NOTE: If you are late, please do not disrupt the class in session. Do your own warm up and catch up to where everyone else is at.

  • Let coaches coach! If you are not the coach being paid to guide our members through the class, please do not coach other people. Our coaches understand the stimulus of the workout, certain ailments or limitations of individual members, and are trained to see, correct and teach complex movements. Leave the hard work to us and enjoy some fun banter. :)

Families

  • We are proud to be a family-oriented gym and enjoy and support you bringing your kids into our community. However please ensure that during classes, they are sitting quietly in the child area, in an appropriate space, or in a pram.

  • For the safety of your kids, as well as considering other members’ training experience, no kids are permitted on the gym floor, or running around our building complex’s carpark during classes.

  • Please clean up any mess, pack away toys and play pen, and ensure any food has been swept up and cleaned before you leave. Leftover food attracts insects and becomes an unpleasant space for other members.

  • If your child is sick and you have no choice but to bring them with you to the gym, please ensure that they stay seated by themselves or in a pram. Do not allow them in the child’s area or let them be in contact with other children.

Equipment

For the safety of people around you and for the longevity of our equipment, please abide by the following rules:

  • Do not drop an empty barbell, it causes damage and they won’t spin nicely when you lift

  • Do not drop a barbell with only 5kg plates on, the plates will bend or break

  • Do not drop kettlebells, the handles can snap and they can also become a dangerous moving object

  • Do not drop dumbbells, the hex heads can come loose and/or damaged

  • Do not sit on wall balls, it pushes them out of shape and makes it difficult to throw and catch them during workouts

  • Keep chalk in the chalk bucket

  • Ghost barbells down from overhead and/or try not to dump them, they can bounce and hurt someone, cause damage to other equipment and/or damage the plates

  • Pack up equipment when you are finished your workout

  • Always wear long socks or pants when rope climbing, we don’t want to share your DNA

  • Wipe down sweat and equipment when necessary with disinfectant wipes provided
